Amidst shrinking civic space and curtailment of fundamental freedoms is the rise of authoritarianism and populism in the Southeast Asian region. The ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) is under scrutiny from international communities due to its ineffectiveness in addressing human rights issues in the region. How far has AICHR come since its establishment a decade ago? Does AICHR function as a relevant human rights mechanism in relation to the struggle of ASEAN peoples? What role can AICHR play in the decade to come, as envisioned by ASEAN civil society organisations? Join us in this workshop to unpack the aforementioned questions.
