Date: 13-14 November 2007

Venue: Delhi, India

FORUM-ASIA and Asian Centre for Human Rights will hold the “India National Consultation for Preparation of Stakeholders’ Report under the Universal Periodic Review” from 13 to 14 November in Delhi, India.

FORUM-ASIA members and other 40 prominent human rights defenders from different parts of India are expected to attend the two day consultation.

Under the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism, human rights records of governments and voluntary pledges made by member States will be scrutinised by other members, known  as ‘peer review’.  The mechanism was adopted in June this year.

India is one of the Asian countries chosen to be examined under the UPR in April 2008. The deadline for submission of reports by stakeholders is on 20 November 2007.

NGOs have to wait for another five years to submit the report again if they failed to submit it this time.  In order not to miss the chance this year, this meeting will be held to prepare stakeholders from India to submit the report on time.

Not to miss the chance this year, this meeting is designed to prepare the submission of the stakeholders from India.
