Being
threated by the government to serve them, mass media in Mongolia lost
its credibility, said the report "Media Freedom Report: Mongolia,
2008".
The report was issued in May 2009 by Globe International ,
a FORUM-ASIA member in Mongolia. "Journalists experience a range of
pressures" and their source of information often are subjected to
threat. "As a result, the media cannot fulfill its role as a government
watchdog".

For instance, for four days in 2008, the
presidential decree on the state of emergency banned the operation of
all broadcasting channels except for the governmental one.

The report highlights other violations of press freedom such as censorship and assaults of journalists.

It also presents the legal framework to protect press freedom. To read the whole report, please click here (.pdf).
