Venue: Colombo, Sri Lanka
Last year, participants from across South Asia met in Nepal to promote peace and democracy in the region as well as strengthen the role of human rights defenders. This year, FORUM-ASIA, along with its member and partner organisations, is holding the 2nd South Asian Human Rights Forum in Colombo, Sri Lanka, 6-8 August 2007.
The forum aims to bring together those working for human rights in the region, to assess progress since the last regional consultation. In particular, impunity and the rule of law have been highlighted as issues of immediate concern and discussion. The P4R campaign—Ratify, Remove, Report and Remedy—will be forefront on the agenda as well. After discussions on these topics are held, a three-year action plan that coordinates human rights work in the region will be developed.
The forum is open to FORUM-ASIA members in South Asia. Financial assistance can be provided for one participant from each member organisation in South Asian countries. Partner organisations can attend by invitation.
