From Our Member Taiwan Association of Human Rights (TAHR) and Covenants Watch – Rally protesting Formosa Plastic Group’s environmental and human rights violations
2 June 2023 10:34 am

Formosa Plastics Group (FPG), known as “Formosa,” has caused severe and irreversible harm to the environment and human rights globally, bringing shame to Taiwan. As part of the NGO coalition, Covenants Watch and the Taiwan Association for Human Rights (TAHR), two members of FORUM-ASIA in Taiwan witnessed the participation of two American Goldman Environmental Prize winners and victims of Formosa Plastics pollution. Diane Wilson from Texas, Sharon Lavigne from Louisiana, and Sharon’s daughter Shamyra Lavigne and Nancy Bui, representing the Vietnamese victims, travelled across the seas to attend FPG’s annual shareholders’ meeting. Their purpose was to urge the company to cease any ongoing environmental and human rights violations, and to provide compensation and relief to those already affected. Prior to the meeting, they joined forces with the Monitor Formosa Alliance, a coalition of six NGOs, to deliver a brief statement and address questions.
