People’s Solidarity for Participatory Democracy (PSPD), a member organization of FORUM-ASIA, has released a 2022 recap of the changes it made in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and other disasters that occurred throughout the year. The report highlights the organization’s efforts to promote civic participation and solidarity in the face of government inaction and irresponsible attitudes towards crisis management.

The report mentions the devastating effects of the record-breaking downpour and the Itaewon Disaster in South Korea, which resulted in the loss of many lives. PSPD notes that the government’s lack of timely initiatives and unrealistic measures in response to these disasters have caused people to feel more resolved than ever to participate and stand in solidarity. PSPD’s efforts to promote civic engagement and accountability in crisis management have been particularly important in this context.

The report highlights PSPD’s successes in pushing for legal reforms that promote transparency and public participation in policymaking, as well as its efforts to strengthen civil society networks and build alliances with other organizations working towards similar goals. Overall, PSPD’s 2022 recap highlights the organization’s continued commitment to promoting participatory democracy and civic engagement in the face of challenging circumstances.
