‘An attempt has been made on highlighting how successful has the Commission been in living up to the expectation of the civil society, human rights activist and the general public, and where else can the Commission work upon.’ – Sheepa Hafiza, Executive Director of ASK.

In December 2018, ANNI member Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) published the report – National Human Rights Commission, Bangladesh. Existing Challenges and Expectations of Civil Society. This report reflects on the role of the Nation Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of Bangladesh in upholding human rights in 2018. The report critically evaluates the progression of the Commission from the perspective of civil society organisations (CSOs). The report highlights how successfully the Commission lives up to the expectation of the civil society, human rights activist and the general public, as well as analyses the existing challenges and shortcomings in their performance.

The Daily Star published an article called titled ‘Some questions on the role of NHRC ,’written by Tamanna Hoq Riti from ASK. The article discusses the reality of the effectiveness of NHRC Bangladesh in protecting and promoting human rights of the citizens of Bangladesh.  The report ‘National Human Rights Commission, Bangladesh. Existing Challenges and Expectations of Civil Society’ was featured in this article as a resourceful reference. The article also reflects upon both the institutional developments as well as struggles faced by NHRC in the field of administration, legal aspects and politics.
