The ASEAN Civil Society Conference/ASEAN People’s Forum (ACSC/APF) 2014 (Yangon – Myanmar, 21-23 March 2014)

The ACSC/APF is organized every year before the ASEAN Summit in the country of the ASEAN chair. The main intent is to build community and solidarity among South East Asia peoples, and specifically in the host country, as well as a space for engagement with ASEAN Heads of State. The ASEAN Civil Society Conference/ASEAN People’s Forum (ACSC/APF) 2014 was held in Yangon, Myanmar on 21-23 March 2014.
The ACSC/APF is an independent but also inclusive space for the peoples of ASEAN. The conference was organized by the region with the host and facilitation of the CSOs of the chairing country as well as CSOs from ASEAN region.
The title of the 2014 edition was “Advancing ASEAN Peoples’ Solidarity towards Sustainable Peace, Development, Justice and Democratization”. With no less than 3,000 participants, it was the highest attended ACSC/APF since its inception in 2005.
FORUM-ASIA co-organized a session called “Review of the AICHR’s TOR: Towards an Independent and Effective Human Rights Body” together with Equality Myanmar; PEF (People’s Empowerment Foundation), Thailand; KontraS (Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence), Indonesia; HRDP (Association of Human Rights Defenders and Promoters), Myanmar; SAPA Task Force on ASEAN and Human Rights. This workshop was attended by no less than 80 participants.
