JAPAN – Civil society condemns tighter control over foreign residents
15 June 2009 1:54 am

jp_nyukan_cchrj.jpgCivil
society organisations in Japan held a demonstration in front of the
Diet in Tokyo on 2 June 2009, opposing the amendment of the immigration
law.

The Ministry of Justice is currently pressing forward
measures aiming to integrate personal information of foreign residents
in the country. If the amendment were pressed forward, foreign
residents without visa are likely to
be excluded from the new registration system, losing access to public
services like education and medical care.
