Freedom of Expression and the Media in Thailand

Part of a series of baselines studies on seven Southeast Asian countries conducted jointly by FORUM-ASIA and consultants from the London-based Article 19, this publication examines the state of freedom of expression in Thailand. It contains key information on the local mass media and laws as well as legal cases involving defamation and the media, and cases of informal restrictions on freedom of expression. Included are the local media’s shortcomings during the 2004 Tsunami and the media’s role in the unrest in southern Thailand.
