About:

AwazCDS-Pakistan is a not for profit, non-governmental, developmental and human rights organization working for the socio-economic development and political empowerment of marginalized communities in Pakistan. AWAZCDS envisages a democratic, prosperous and peaceful society by developing and providing integrated and innovative solutions in cooperation with local, national, regional, and international partners, which foster action and change for securing the future of the marginalized community. AwazCDS’s theory of change is based on the belief that meaningful change in Pakistan starts with social, economic and political empowerment of communities and building essential platforms where people could realize their rights, organize themselves and strive for change in a collective manner. Whilst successful initiatives are valuable for those communities taking part, the gains made will have limited impact and remain possibly unsustainable if only confined at community level. AwazCDS believes that the best opportunities for bringing meaningful change at any significant scale are through multiple stakeholders working effectively towards common goals.

AwazCDS enjoys special consultative status with UN ECOSOC (The United Nations Economic and Social Council) and leads Pakistan Development Alliance, an alliance of national level NGOs working together for the implementation of SDGs keeping in view rights based approaches for better governance and accountability.

Areas of work:

AwazCDS operates as per the guidance provided under its strategic plans since its inception. The fourth strategic plan (2014-2017) of the organization focuses upon key strategic priorities i.e. Health, Education, Gender, Governance & Accountability, Climate Justice & Disaster Risk Reductions, Food Security & Livelihoods and Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH).

In order to bring consistency in organization’s programming, AwazCDS has set certain guiding
principles for its intervention in Pakistan. These principles serve as a basis for reasoning and action and lead the way of designing and implementing key development initiatives. These principles are as follows:

  • Building Partnerships
  • Promote Innovations
  • Building Capacity
  • Adopting Technology
  • Ensuring Transparency
  • Making ourselves Accountable
  • Building Linkages
  • Creating Community Ownership
  • Focusing on Sustainability
  • Generating Evidence

Main lines of work:

AwazCDS has been effectively translating grassroots level development models into actions which result in policy / practice changes. This is bit challenging, however, AwazCDS has been dealing with this challenge through integrating policy advocacy across all its programs on ground and bring out key recommendations from its programming which could set its long term advocacy agenda in the country.

AwazCDS also aims to effectively tap the emergent opportunities in the external environment in order to bring in maximum benefit for its targeted communities.

AwazCDS keeps strong inter-linkages between its key program themes with improved emphasis on policy advocacy, research, partnerships and culture as cross cutting themes. AwazCDS emphasizes its programmatic focus on women, young people, children and socially excluded groups (mainly people with disability, trans-gender and minorities) and design its interventions in a way that best serve these highly vulnerable / least served groups of society.
